When we look back over the history of Perfect Potion, our journey feels very much like a book made up of distinct chapters. Some chapters are about growth and expanding into new places, but others are defined by pivotal moments where our values were tested—moments that shifted our path and shaped who we are today.

The story of our Relax blend is one of those foundational chapters. It takes me back more than 30 years ago, long before Perfect Potion even existed. Back then, I was running a small stall called The Garden Party at the North Pine Country Markets. I was spending my weekends talking directly with people, listening to what they needed, and blending essential oils to support their wellbeing. |
Relax was one of the very first blends I ever created. I wanted a simple, effective blend to help calm a busy mind and ease daily stress. It connected with people straight away, but it wasn't until a few years later that this blend would spark one of the most important chapters in our company’s story.
Originally, the Relax formula included Rosewood, which gave it a soft, comforting woody note. But as I looked deeper into the supply chain of our raw materials, I learned the truth: Rosewood essential oil was being harvested from wild trees in the Amazon rainforest, driving severe deforestation. Continuing to use Rosewood in our potions at the cost of the environment was not something I felt comfortable with, or which aligned with the ethical and sustainable values of Perfect Potion. Consequently, in the 1990’s, we became one of the first Australian companies that decided to ban the use of Rosewood.
This meant that I then had to recreate Relax from scratch. My goal was to preserve the soothing heart and soul of the original aroma, but strictly using ethically sourced, sustainable botanicals. The result was a revelation—the new formulation wasn't just an ethical alternative; it was actually a more balanced, beautiful blend than the original.

Decades later, Relax remains one of our most loved essential oil blends and the signature aroma of our entire Relax range. It is a simple yet evocative blend of four classic essential oils: soothing lavender, uplifting sweet orange, peaceful ylang ylang and balancing geranium. The synergy of these oils creates a gentle, calming aroma that stands as a reminder of our early market days, and proof that staying true to your values will always guide you down the right path.
