The Inspiration

Carolyn's Experience with Uncle Burragun

Uncle Burragun is now with the Ancestors. He was a patient, generous and deeply proud Ugarapul man who would take me on journeys — on Goori time — and connect me to his Country.

His connections ran deep - throughout time, through his Ancestors, and through living on Country. I listened — a lot. Time seemed to morph and nothing felt linear when I was with Uncle. Things just seemed to open up and all things were connected.

As we walked plants would appear that Uncle would pick and share how his Ancestors had been sustained by them—fresh crunchy berries growing close to the ground—full of antioxidants; leaves brewed into medicinal healing preparations and the base of young grass tree leaves offering a sweet, nutritional liquid.

During this time, I began reading the research being carried out into the remarkable compounds being found in the plants that had survived, adapted and continued to grow across this continent and the applications that these incredible plants have—including skincare. Full of antioxidants, healing and soothing compounds, Australian natives are especially suited to care for our skin in this unique climate. Ten carefully selected potent Australian botanicals became the heart of our skincare with the supplier of these potent extracts sourcing them from First Nations and Certified Organic growers. All rich in antioxidants and bioactive phyto-compounds, these botanicals include Kakadu Plum, Desert Lime, Lily Pily, Quandong, Davidson Plum, Kangaroo Paw, Emu Apple, Banksia, Flame Tree and Lemon Aspen.
