A space to nurture your soul
What is the Ma Collection?
Ma is the Japanese art of meaningful space — not emptiness, but the pause between things. The silence that gives music its depth, the breath that gives words their weight. In Japanese aesthetics, ma is the interval that makes everything else possible. It is the space in which life is not crowded out by noise, demand or busyness, but allowed to breathe.
The Ma Collection was created with a single purpose - to create the conditions in which we can flourish. The six blends, each embodies one of the six virtues - Love for humanity; True for justice; Ground for temperance; Sacred for transcendence; Brave for courage and Sage for wisdom.
Flourishing is not an achievement we can force. It is something that emerges gradually, quietly - when we are given the right conditions. When we are grounded enough to feel, still enough to hear, open enough to receive.
That is what the Ma Collection offers - a breath, a pause, and room in which you can become again, or perhaps for the first time a little more yourself.
Ma and the Aromatherapy Experience
Each blend in this collection is a temporal arc, not a single moment. When you diffuse one of these blends, the room is altered without being filled. The scent creates a kind of atmospheric ma — a charged, altered space that invites a different quality of presence in whoever enters it. It does not demand attention; it simply changes the quality of the space.
The breath itself is structured around ma. There is a natural pause at the top of each inhalation and at the bottom of each exhalation. These pauses are where scent is fully absorbed, and where we engage with the scent and transformation occurs. Pausing at the top of the inhale, letting the scent simply be present before releasing it is a direct, embodied engagement with ma.
Each blend creates a ma - a charged, intentional interior space in which a particular virtue has room to emerge, not because we have willed it into being, but because we have given it room.

LOVE
Virtue of Humanity ·
Character Strengths of Love · Kindness · Social Intelligence
rose absolute · ylang ylang · geranium · sweet orange · bergamot · lavender · hinoki wood · fragonia · neroli · jasmine absolute
Warm, heart-centred and deeply connecting
The ma that Love creates is the space of the open heart — warm, unhurried and without condition. It is the atmosphere of a room in which someone feels truly seen; the quality of attention that makes another person feel they are not alone. In this ma, the usual guardedness softens. Connection becomes possible not because anything has been said or done, but because the space itself has become safe enough for tenderness to exist.
Humanity is the virtue of love in action — the capacity to care for others not as an obligation but as a natural expression of who we are. Its character strengths are love, kindness and social intelligence: the ability to give warmth freely, to act with genuine care, and to read and respond to the emotional world of those around us with grace.
Love is the most universal of all the virtue words. Anyone who reaches for this blend knows exactly what they are reaching toward. This is a beautifully composed heart blend. Every oil speaks to the warmth, connection and social generosity that define Humanity.
· Rose absolute — the quintessential oil of the open heart — love, compassion, emotional vulnerability. Present as the keynote; quiet but powerful.
· Ylang ylang — deepens the floral warmth and adds a quality of emotional surrender and joy, beautifully suited to unconditional love.
· Geranium — bridges heart and mind, adding emotional balance and the nurturing quality that speaks directly to kindness and social intelligence.
· Bergamot — adds warmth — the oil of emotional generosity and self-acceptance.
· Lavender — bringing calm compassion and the sense that love is also a safe harbour.
· Sweet orange — adds joy, playfulness and openness — the lightness of heart that makes connection easy.
· Hinoki wood — grounds the otherwise floral palette and adds a quiet, enduring quality — love as something rooted, not merely felt.
· Fragonia —brings harmony and emotional integration, speaking to the social intelligence strand of Humanity.
· Neroli — bittersweet and deeply heart-centred — a quality of delicate, radiant warmth.
· Jasmine absolute — deepens the emotional richness of the blend, aligning with the quality of unconditional, open-hearted love.

TRUE
Virtue of Justice
Character strengths of Fairness · Teamwork · Leadership
lemon · hinoki wood · bergamot · petitgrain · bay laurel · rosemary · black pepper · blue mallee eucalyptus · scots pine · fragonia · geranium
Crisp, purposeful and ethically grounded
The ma that True creates is the space of clear air — the interior silence in which we can hear ourselves think honestly. It is the pause before a difficult truth is spoken; the moment of stillness in which we know what is right before the noise of competing interests obscures it again. In this ma, the mind settles into integrity. What is fair becomes visible. What needs to be done becomes clear.
Justice is the virtue of living rightly in relation to others — of being honest, fair and accountable in all that we do. Its character strengths are fairness, teamwork and leadership: the capacity to treat people without bias, to work collaboratively toward shared goals, and to take responsibility for the communities and causes we are part of.
True embodies Justice - honest, real, aligned. This blend smells like clarity, discernment and righteous action.
· Lemon — leads with mental clarity and honesty, it literally clears the air. Bold and confident, setting the tone from the first breath.
· Bergamot — softens the sharpness of lemon and adds the quality of fairness, seeing all sides with warmth.
· Petitgrain — clean and green, it adds the quality of clear-minded integrity and calm self-assurance.
· Rosemary — the oil of clear thinking, decisiveness and leadership. It is central to a justice blend.
· Black pepper — adds courage to act on what is right.
· Blue mallee eucalyptus — creates the sense of wide-open perspective and clear vision, which suits fairness and teamwork beautifully.
· Bay laurel — traditionally associated with achievement, leadership and personal authority — quietly commanding.
· Scots pine — adds principled steadiness and integrity; a quality of standing firm in one's own truth.
· Hinoki wood — grounds the mentality of the blend, adding depth to what would otherwise be all citrus and herb.
· Fragonia — brings integration and harmony — in a Justice blend, this speaks to the reconciling of competing perspectives.
· Geranium — adds emotional balance and a steady sense of equity.

GROUND
Virtue of Temperance ·
Character strengths of Self-Regulation · Humility · Forgiveness · Prudence
geranium · german chamomile · fragonia · clary sage · mandarin · sweet orange · atlas cedarwood · patchouli · petitgrain · vetiver · black spruce · hinoki wood · santalum album · lavender
Earthy, grounding and deeply stabilising
The ma that Ground creates is the space of the earth beneath the feet — stable, patient, unshakeable. It is the interior quality of someone who cannot be easily swept away; the stillness at the centre of a difficult situation. In this ma, reactivity dissolves. The nervous system settles. There is room to choose a response rather than simply have one — and from that room, genuine self-regulation becomes not only possible but natural.
Temperance is the virtue of self-mastery — the capacity to regulate our impulses, emotions and desires in ways that serve our deepest values rather than our most immediate ones. Its character strengths are self-regulation, humility, forgiveness and prudence: the ability to pause before reacting, to hold ourselves lightly, to release what we cannot change, and to act with care and foresight.
Ground names what the Temperance oils do and what the virtue itself provides. The stable, anchored quality of someone who has genuinely found their centre. Ground works as noun, verb and adjective simultaneously, which gives it unusual richness.
This is the most complex and richly layered blend in the collection — and rightly so. Temperance requires both depth and lightness.
· Vetiver — the master grounding oil — deeply earthy, stabilising, the essential anchor of Temperance.
· Atlas cedarwood — adds structure and quiet strength — the oil of steadiness and perseverance.
· Patchouli — grounds further and adds a quality of embodied presence and self-possession.
· Santalum album — precious and intentional at a very low percentage — it adds a meditative stillness that speaks to the inner quiet of Temperance.
· German chamomile — deeply calming, associated with surrender and releasing the need to control.
· Clary sage — the oil of inner clarity and self-regulation — it sits beautifully between the chamomiles and the citruses.
· Petitgrain — adds a clean, clear-minded quality that prevents the heavy base from feeling ponderous.
· Black spruce — fresh and fortifying — a quality of resilience and measured strength.
· Mandarin — lifts the blend with warmth and a gentle, nourishing sweetness.
· Sweet orange — adds joy and openness — preventing Temperance from feeling austere or heavy.
· Geranium — balances and integrates the blend from top to base.
· Fragonia — continues its harmonising work across the collection.
· Hinoki wood — adds a quiet Japanese quality of being still within the world.
· Lavender — holds the blend with gentle, abiding steadiness.

SACRED
Virtue of Transcendence
Character Strengths of Spirituality · Gratitude · Appreciation of Beauty · Hope
frankincense · frankincense sacra · hinoki wood · santalum album · santalum spicatum · atlas cedarwood · patchouli · bergamot · sweet orange · elemi · black spruce · lavender · mandarin · vetiver · neroli
The ma that Sacred creates is the space of the temple or the forest clearing — vast, still and charged with something beyond the ordinary. It is the quality of awe: the interior opening that happens when we encounter something that exceeds our categories. In this ma, the personal self becomes briefly quiet. Gratitude arises without effort. Beauty is felt, not merely observed. There is a sense of belonging to something larger than the concerns of the day.
Transcendence is the virtue of reaching beyond the self — the capacity to find meaning, beauty and connection in something greater than our individual concerns. Its character strengths are spirituality, gratitude, appreciation of beauty and hope: the ability to be moved by what is sacred, to receive the gift of the present moment, to be stopped in our tracks by loveliness, and to orient ourselves toward what is possible rather than what is merely given.
Transcendence encompasses the qualities through which we touch something larger than ourselves — spirituality, gratitude, awe and hope. Sacred honours this depth with its most ceremonial and resonant palette of oils. The double frankincense and sandalwood at the heart of this blend is a particularly beautiful and an intentional choice.
· Frankincense — the oil of the sacred, of turning inward — the keynote of any transcendence blend.
· Frankincense sacra — the rarest and most prized Boswellia, deepening the frankincense quality to something rich, complex and ceremonially still.
· Elemi —a resinous oil closely related to frankincense, associated with illumination and the opening of the inner eye. It adds a bright, almost crystalline quality to the depth of the resins.
· Santalum album — brings meditative stillness and sacred depth at a precise, intentional percentage.
· Santalum spicatum — adds a warm, creamy sandalwood character that complements the Indian sandalwood beautifully.
· Patchouli and vetiver — ground the transcendence so it does not float away.
· Neroli — adds a quality of spiritual radiance and bittersweet, heart-opening beauty.
· Yuzu / Mandarin — brings a quality of pure, unadorned joy and wonder that speaks to Transcendence's sense of awe — a distinctly Japanese quality.
· Black spruce — evokes the vast, the infinite, the forest — a quality of smallness within something greater.
· Atlas cedarwood and hinoki wood — together create a forest-temple atmosphere, ancient and quietly reverential.
· Bergamot — ensures the blend remains warm and accessible.
· Sweet orange and lavender — keep the blend embodied and gently luminous.

Character Strengths of Bravery · Perseverance · Honesty · Vitality
Ginger · Black pepper · Rosemary · Myrtle · Lemon · Frankincense · Pine · Atlas cedarwood · Hinoki wood · Cardamom · Sweet fennel · Lime cold pressed
Immediate, personal and quietly inspiring
The ma that Brave creates is the space of the courage — the charged pause before we step into something difficult. It is the moment of collected breath before the hard conversation, the performance, the decision. In this ma, fear does not disappear but it becomes navigable. There is a sense of inner resource; of being larger than the obstacle. Courage does not arise by willing it — it arises in a space where the body has been reminded of its own capacity.
Courage is the virtue of acting rightly in the face of difficulty — of moving forward not because there is no fear, but because something matters more than the fear. Its character strengths are bravery, perseverance, honesty and vitality: the willingness to face what is hard, to persist through adversity, to speak truth even when it costs something, and to bring full energy and aliveness to life.
Brave is what you say to yourself in a difficult moment. It asks something of you rather than simply describing a state. Bold, activating, forward-moving — this blend smells like courage feels.
Ginger —warming, activating, dissolving fear and inertia. The oil of energy and boldness.
Black pepper — adds warmth and the confidence needed when facing difficulty with directness.
Rosemary — sharpens focus and resolve. The oil of remembering who you are and what you stand for.

Lemon and lime — together create brightness and the sense of a fresh start, courage always involves beginning again.
Frankincense — adds inner stillness and the wisdom to act with courage.
Atlas cedarwood — adds the steadiness and confidence to act with courage.
Hinoki wood — adds the grounded, contemplative quality that gives courage its depth.
Myrtle —it brings gentle courage and quiet persistence, complementing the fiery ginger and pepper beautifully.
Cardamom — adds warmth, clarity and purposeful intention, giving the blend heart as well as heat.
Sweet fennel — a softening, clarifying quality associated with courage in facing the unknown.

SAGE
Virtue of Wisdom

Geranium · Sandalwood Aust · Clary sage · Petitgrain · Fragonia · Rosemary · Black pepper · Coriander seed · Lemon · Bergamot · Oakmoss absolute · Frankincense · Atlas cedarwood · Patchouli · Vetiver · Hinoki wood · Santalum album · Lavender
Deep, temporally spacious and quietly clarifying
The ma that Sage creates is the space of deep time — the unhurried interior in which understanding slowly illuminates. It is the quality of a long perspective: the capacity to see a situation whole, without urgency or distortion. In this ma, the need to have answers gives way to the willingness to sit with questions. Curiosity becomes restful rather than anxious. Wisdom does not arrive — it is simply, quietly, allowed to surface.
Wisdom is the virtue of knowing how to live well — not merely accumulating knowledge, but developing the depth of understanding that comes from experience, reflection and a genuine love of learning. Its character strengths are perspective, curiosity, love of learning and creativity: the capacity to hold the long view, to remain endlessly interested in the world, to keep growing, and to find new ways of seeing what others have passed over.
Sage names the virtue and embodies it simultaneously. Supports the quality of seeing clearly through experience. It cultivates a form of presence that is not passive but most alert, most perceptive, most alive to the texture of things. This is the most expansive and meditative blend in the collection, the one that asks you to slow down, to sit with yourself, to let understanding arise rather than pursue it.
· Frankincense — opens the wisdom space — the oil of perspective, of stepping back, of seeing the larger pattern.
· Sandalwood Aust. — creates a rich, meditative depth — wisdom as something aged and unhurried.
· Santalum album — adds the most refined meditative stillness, precious and quietly authoritative.
· Clary sage — the traditional oil of inner vision and clarity of insight — its presence at the heart of this blend is essential and exact.
· Atlas cedarwood — adds the quality of accumulated knowledge and quiet authority.
· Vetiver — grounds wisdom in the body and in lived experience — preventing wisdom from becoming merely intellectual.
· Patchouli — adds earthiness and embodied knowing — wisdom is also learned through living, not only through reflection.
· Oakmoss absolute — rare and distinctive, it adds a quality of ancient, forest-deep knowing — the wisdom of deep time.
· Coriander seed — warm, slightly spicy and gently clarifying — it adds a quality of engaged, curious intelligence.
· Rosemary — the oil of memory and active intelligence — adding the quality of curious, engaged learning alongside the more contemplative oils.
· Black pepper — a small, purposeful amount — adding the quality of directness and honest discernment that true wisdom requires.
· Lemon and bergamot — add mental clarity and open curiosity — wisdom is not only depth but also receptivity and lightness.
· Petitgrain — clean and clear-minded, offering a green, grounding freshness.
· Fragonia — continues its integrating, harmonising role across the collection.
· Hinoki wood — adds its Japanese quality of quiet contemplation — being fully present without striving.
