The origins of Kakadu plums

Kakadu plums are uniquely endemic to northern Australia. These superfruits grow throughout the monsoon tropics of the Kimberleys, Kakadu and Arnhem Land where they have developed strong defence mechanisms to survive extreme conditions of heat, drought, UV exposure, high winds and floods. These mechanisms induce them to produce powerful antioxidants and to store essential phyto-nutrients and compounds that protect Kakadu plums from these extreme weather conditions.

Where do we source our Kakadu plums?

Our formulations contain Kakadu plums that are wild-harvested from the Kakadu national park under license by Indigenous community members who pick the fruit during their harvest season. Kakadu plums have been a traditional source of bush tucker and medicine for the local First Nations People for tens of thousands of years and were eaten during long treks or hunting trips. They have a sweet taste that ends with a pleasant bitterness. They were also traditionally applied topically for their antiseptic and skin healing properties

 How Kakadu plums benefit your skin

These remarkable superfruits:

  • help protect the skin against oxidative damage;
  • boost collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid synthesis;
  • soothe the skin and reduce redness;
  • help reduce pigmentation;
  • have antibacterial properties.

Kakadu plums are rich in antioxidants and phytonutrients that help protect the skin from the damage induced by UV radiation, pollution and other skin stressors, which our skin is exposed to every day. These superfruits also boost collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid synthesis. These properties make Kakadu plums ideal for improving skin firmness and smoothness, while also reducing and repairing skin damage induced by oxidative stress and improving skin radiance.

In addition to vitamin C, two of the many antioxidants found in Kakadu plums are the polyphenols - gallic acid and ellagic acid. With anti-inflammatory properties, gallic acid can help restore the skin’s natural barrier and treat pigmentation spots while ellagic acid also supports a healthy skin barrier and improves skin elasticity for supple skin. The anti-inflammatory properties of Kakadu plums help soothe the skin and reduce redness while their antibacterial properties can help treat skin prone to blemishes – making these Australian fruits suitable for all skin types.
