It may sound scary and contradictory to use oil on your face, but hear us out! Facial oils can be one of the most important steps in your skincare routine, especially in winter.

Essential fatty acids are key to repairing and maintaining our skin’s nourishment and hydration levels. Unfortunately, the body cannot make them on its own so it is necessary to obtain them from external sources like food (tip: try incorporating lots of flaxseed and evening primrose oil, pumpkin seeds and green leafy vegetables into your diet). You can also feed your skin the essential fatty acids it needs through topical application in the form of nourishing facial oils.

These help rebuild and maintain our skin’s lipid barrier (which often gets broken down quite significantly during winter) to provide total protection and a gorgeous, hydrated glow! Facial oils also function as a carrier for active ingredients that can help heal, soothe and calm irritated skin & speed up its repair process.

When choosing your facial oil…

Look for nourishing ingredients like…

Apricot Kernel Oil – For normal to dry skin. Apricot kernel oil is rich in oleic acid and linoleic acid, both of which are valued for their ability to soften, nourish and revitalise the skin. Apricot oil also has a high vitamin E content that helps with skin elasticity, clarity and suppleness.

Calendula Oil – For sensitive skin. Derived from the lovely marigold flower, calendula has beautiful healing and anti-inflammatory properties much of which are due to its high levels of carotenoids. It’s also known as a skin soother and softener.

Wheat Germ Oil – For dry and mature skin. This oil is extremely nutritious. It is rich in vitamin E making it an excellent natural antioxidant. Wheat germ oil also promotes the formation of skin cells, improves blood circulation and can be useful for dermatitis.

Jojoba Oil – For normal to dry skin. Jojoba oil will leave your skin feeling hydrated, smooth and velvety soft due to its high levels of vitamins A, D and E and essential fatty acids. It also mimics the skin’s sebum so is non-comedogenic and very easily absorbed.

Chamomile Essential Oil – For sensitive skin. Chamomile essential oil owes its skin-soothing reputation to the calming and redness reducing actives bisabolol and azulene .

Lavender Essential Oil – For all skin types. Lavender essential oil is filled with beautiful anti-inflammatory and skin healing properties.

Frankincense Essential Oil – For dry and mature skin. As well as being spiritually uplifting and soothing for the mind, frankincense essential oil tones and rejuvenates the complexion.
