Winter Wellness pt 2: Serums & Facial Oils

Two ways to keep your skin nourished, protected & silky smooth this winter…

Want to maintain soft, velvety skin and a radiant glow all through the cold season? Try investing in an extra insurance policy against the elements with the beautifying & protective power of serums and facial oils. Your winter-skin survival kit would be incomplete without them!

Get glowing with nourishing facial oils…

Velvety, comforting, sensual and soul-soothing, facial oils have been used for centuries and their thirst-quenching nature make them perfect for winter! It may sound scary and contradictory to use oil on your face, but hear us out! Facial oils can be one of the most important steps in your skincare routine, especially in winter.

How they work & why we love them…

Essential fatty acids are key to repairing and maintaining our skin’s nourishment and hydration levels. Unfortunately, the body cannot make them on its own so it is necessary to obtain them from external sources like food (tip: try incorporating lots of flaxseed and evening primrose oil, pumpkin seeds and green leafy vegetables into your diet). You can also feed your skin the essential fatty acids it needs through topical application in the form of nourishing facial oils.

These help rebuild and maintain our skin’s lipid barrier (which often gets broken down quite significantly during winter) to provide total protection and a gorgeous, hydrated glow! Facial oils also function as a carrier for active ingredients that can help heal, soothe and calm irritated skin & speed up its repair process.

When choosing your facial oil…

Look for nourishing ingredients like…

Apricot Kernel Oil – For normal to dry skin. Apricot kernel oil is rich in oleic acid and linoleic acid, both of which are valued for their ability to soften, nourish and revitalise the skin. Apricot oil also has a high vitamin E content that helps with skin elasticity, clarity and suppleness.

Calendula Oil – For sensitive skin. Derived from the lovely marigold flower, calendula has beautiful healing and anti-inflammatory properties much of which are due to its high levels of carotenoids. It’s also known as a skin soother and softener.

Wheat Germ Oil – For dry and mature skin. This oil is extremely nutritious. It is rich in vitamin E making it an excellent natural antioxidant. Wheat germ oil also promotes the formation of skin cells, improves blood circulation and can be useful for dermatitis.

Jojoba Oil – For normal to dry skin. Jojoba oil will leave your skin feeling hydrated, smooth and velvety soft due to its high levels of vitamins A, D and E and essential fatty acids. It also mimics the skin’s sebum so is non-comedogenic and very easily absorbed.

Chamomile Essential Oil – For sensitive skin. Chamomile essential oil owes its skin-soothing reputation to the calming and redness reducing actives bisabolol and azulene .

Lavender Essential Oil – For all skin types. Lavender essential oil is filled with beautiful anti-inflammatory and skin healing properties.

Frankincense Essential Oil – For dry and mature skin. As well as being spiritually uplifting and soothing for the mind, frankincense essential oil tones and rejuvenates the complexion.

The facial oils saving our skin this winter…

It is filled with skin softening and protective ingredients like rosehip, wheat germ and calendula oils as well as vitamin E and pure essential oils of frankincense and patchouli – all of which work to give an instant glow and velvety finish!

For those with sensitive skin,Soothe Oil is your winter skin saviour! It works to calm and soothe red, dry or angry complexions with pure essential oils of lavender, neroli and German chamomile. It also helps soften and protect with apricot kernel, jojoba and calendula oils.

Simply apply a few drops of either Soothe Oil or Skin Elixir to freshly cleansed skin. Gently massage into your face, neck and décolletage using upward movements, and press into your skin to aid absorption.

For best results, apply after misting your skin with one of our Fine Tuning Solutions and follow with the moisturiser of your choice.

Facial serums to satisfy your skin’s winter thirst…

Serums are a wonderful way to winter-proof your skin! These light, fast-absorbing beauty elixirs are bursting with potent, highly concentrated ingredients made up of tiny molecules. These itty bitty molecules are small enough to penetrate deep into the dermis where they can deliver key, active ingredients to struggling skin.

Serums are an intensive treatment. They are pure magic in winter when skin can become quite dull, nutrient deprived and in need of reinvigoration! They can be worn during the day underneath your moisturiser as an added protective bonus, or slipped into your evening beauty routine for deep overnight hydration.

When choosing your serum…

Ensure your serum is filled with nutrient-rich ingredients like…

Green Tea & Olive Leaf Extracts – For damaged or mature skin. Intensely rich in antioxidants, green tea and olive leaf extracts help fight & prevent free radical damage and protect your skin from environmental conditions.

Rosehip Oil – For all skin types. Rosehip oil is like a supercharged multivitamin for your complexion! It is packed full of replenishing essential fatty acids and antioxidants that soften, regenerate and improve the texture of dry and damaged skin.

Vitamin E – For all skin types. A powerful antioxidant, vitamin E helps neutralise free radicals, promote the formation of skin cells, repair damage, soften skin and enhance suppleness.

Neroli Essential Oil – For dry and sensitive skin. This uplifting oil helps reduce redness and irritation. It also has a rejuvenating effect due to its ability to stimulate the growth of healthy new skin cells!

Australian Sandalwood Essential Oil – For dry skin. This cooling and soothing oil is said to aid in the treatment of eczema, psoriasis and oily, acne prone skin.

We recommend these skin-saving serums…

Nutrient-rich Replenish Serum will help recharge your winter skin. The combination of Green Tea and Olive Leaf extracts, beta carotene and vitamin E will infuse your skin with antioxidants and protect it from the harshness of winter weather. As an added bonus, pure damask rose essential oil will elevate your senses.

For especially dry or dehydrated skin, we recommend Pure Plant Hydrating Serum to help boost your skin’s moisture levels with a jojoba-derived emollient, olive leaf extract and essential oils of neroli, chamomile and sandalwood.

How to use… Apply a small amount of the serum of your choise to freshly cleansed skin. Gently massage into your face, neck and décolletage using light upward strokes and press into your skin to enhance absorption. Wait a few minutes, allowing it to soak in completely before applying your moisturiser.
