Wellness Wonderland

A new year renews the desire to make positive changes for the year to come, giving a vibrant enthusiasm to move in the direction of a healthier and happier life. There are many positive things that can be done each day to maintain balance and connection with the shifting flow of our lives. Through aromatherapy and essential oils in combination holistic lifestyle choices we can discover true health and the incredible connection between ourselves and our environment.

Here follows my 2015 tips for a living a healthier, happier and sparkling life!

Aroma – Therapy

The sense of smell is directly linked to the limbic lobe in the brain, our emotional control centre. Sleepy Time

Sleep is the time when your body renews and replenishes itself, repairing damage caused by physical stress, emotional toxicity and environmental pollution. It is said that the best quality sleep occurs before midnight. Aim to get ready for slumber before 10pm at least three nights per week, even if this means sipping on herbal tea, resting and reading in bed. Good sleep is key for good health. When we sleep cells grow, wounds heal faster, memory sharpens and muscles repair.

Diet and nutrition have a large effect on sleep quality. Dates, oats, cherries, cashews, almonds, pumpkin and sunflower seeds all contain productive sleep supporting components.

 Prana Republic

The regular practice of yoga effectively balances, purifies and strengthens the body, mind and soul. Yoga promotes flexibility both in the body and mind. Yogic asanas are beneficial for purifying and toning the internal organs, helping to alleviate emotional and physical stagnation. Attend a regular yoga class or create your own little yoga space, by setting up an area in the home with a yoga mat, candles and cushions.  Wholefoods

The concept of utilising food as a remedy has been employed for thousands of years. Today we have the knowledge that proves the health benefits of a diet that is full of vitamins, minerals, fibre, protein, amino acids and antioxidants. Every day we should aim to eat a stable diet of fresh and nutritionally sound food; organic, biodynamic and wild crafted food is always best.

A dietary regime should be a system you can consistently maintain; the best approach to eating is by simply following a diet of fresh “wholefoods”. Wholefood is food in its natural state. The opposite of wholefood is processed food that has been pulled apart, mostly for increased shelf life, resulting in diminished nutritional content.

A plum, a banana, a carrot, a piece of meat, a grain of brown rice, a lentil; they are wholefoods. A highly nutritious wholefoods diet nourishes the body by supplying it with enzymes, vitamins, minerals, proteins, amino acids, antioxidants and essential fatty acids it needs to flourish. The more conscious you are about what you eat, the more alert you will be in every dimension of your being.

 Dandelion Tea

This year make it your mission to drink more herbal tea! The dandelion plant is marvelous for maintaining optimum liver, kidney and gallbladder function. It also purifies the blood and detoxifies the digestive organs, leaving the skin looking and feeling fresh and radiant. Try replacing your afternoon coffee with a hot dandelion latte using dandelion root, honey, cinnamon and warmed almond milk.

Brown Rice Detox

Health and vitality is sustained if the body is regularly cleared of toxic overload. The oldest medical systems of Ayurveda and traditional Chinese medicine have shared about the great importance of purification. The brown rice cleanse is an easy and effective way to cleanse and restore your body.

Choose a day when you are prepared and feeling relaxed. Soak and rinse three cups of brown rice. Place into a rice cooker along with and eight cups of water and cook as instructed. Once the rice is cooked, mix through a small amount of turmeric powder, black pepper, cumin seeds, fennel seeds, crushed raw garlic and grated ginger, as these are all really great detoxifying spices.

Feel free to garnish your brown rice bowl with a little olive oil or clarified gee, heaps of fresh parsley and fine Himalayan salt. The combination of nutrients will gently move through your system healing, hydrating and cleansing the organs. Brown rice is very easily digested and is highly nutritious.

 Feed Your Skin

Because the skin is our largest organ, it is vital to externally and internally feed it with naturally nourishing ingredients. Always use 100% pure organic oils and creams containing jojoba, coconut, olive, apricot, almond, avocado, rosehip, shea, cocoa, sunflower, macadamia or grape seed oil to alleviate super dry skin. Eating more nuts, seeds, avocados, olives, evening primrose, hemp and flaxseed oil will ensure healthy and supple skin.

 Get Moving

Daily exercise is so incredibly important. Physical movement allows the human body to perform its functions more effectively, helping to increase circulation, strengthen the immune system ease muscle and rheumatic pain. Choose an activity you enjoy like yoga, bush walking, tennis or a few simple stretches on the beach. You may find shorter stints of high impact gym sessions or beach runs work best for you.

 Lemony H2O

Having a glass of purified warm water infused with lemon or lime juice first thing in the morning is a great way to alkalise and hydrate the body.  It also introduces a natural peptic aid into your stomach, and the pectin in this citrus fruit actually mops up fats and interacts with the other acids and enzymes in the body which contributes to a well-functioning digestive system.

 Meditation

This insightful activity will undeniably keep the body and mind relaxed ensuring that on a cellular level your whole being is healthy and happy. Meditation is often seen as a difficult and daunting activity preventing beginners from starting the practice. Meditation simply involves taking a little time each day to sit and be with yourself. Thoughts will come, and meditation is all about not giving your thoughts a story and just trying to be as neutral and still as you can. Just five to ten minutes a day of meditative stillness has many beneficial benefits.
