Treating your Tresses

Hair has been an important aspect of beauty for thousands of years. The ancient Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians scented and treated their hair with essential oils and nourished it with selected vegetable oils.

Thousands of years later, our hair is still an important aspect of how we look and feel. We all want the feel of soft and nourished hair billowing on our shoulders or the feeling of shiny locks as we run our hands through it, but what do we have to do to achieve this?

Beautiful hair doesn’t have to come at the price of using non-natural ingredients. Achieving hair that feels silky smooth and has a beautiful vibrant shine is simple: aromatherapy!

Perfect Potion’s range of haircare products integrate aromatherapy to help you achieve soft and shiny hair and a nourished scalp, naturally!

What’s so good about it?

Our range includes a variety of shampoos and conditioners, as well as an oil elixir, balm and beard oil. But how do they work naturally?

Rosemary essential oil is a key ingredient in our Rosemary Shampoo and Conditioner as well as our Hair and Scalp Elixir. The rosemary in these products helps to avoid dandruff and an itchy scalp. Massaging your scalp with either the Rosemary Shampoo or Hair and Scalp Elixir will stimulate and rejuvenate hair follicles by increasing blood circulation to the scalp. We’ve also added geranium, ylang ylang and lavender to these products as well as to our Hair Balm. Essential oil fragrances are heat activated, therefore the heat from your scalp activates these essential oils so you enjoy the therapeutic scent. Geranium dispels anxiety, ylang ylang is incredibly uplifting and lavender is calming, all to contribute to making you feel as shiny and wonderful as your hair looks.

Similarly, we have added Roman Chamomile essential oil to our Chamomile Shampoo. Roman Chamomile has a wonderful fruity scent; it is uplifting and helps to give us a sense of purpose. Roman Chamomile essential oil combined with German Chamomile herbal extract is what gives our Chamomile Shampoo the chamomile kick you need. German Chamomile herbal extract is used for the relief of symptoms of eczema and dermatitis by soothing rashes and irritated skin, making our Chamomile Shampoo and Marigold Conditioner perfect for those with sensitive scalps still wanting soft and beautiful hair.


Tips and Tricks

Here are some tips and tricks for using our products to give your hair an extra boost of radiance naturally.

For dry, brittle and damaged hair… in a bowl mix Rosemary Conditioner and our Certified Organic Coconut Oil. Apply generously to dry hair and let it nourish for 30 minutes or longer. Shampoo and condition as normal. For a dry and itchy scalp… use a dropper to part your hair and coat scalp with our Hair and Scalp Elixir. Let the oil nourish for the scalp for 30 minutes or leave overnight. Shampoo and condition as normal.

Relaxation Inspiration

It’s time to examine our down time! Perhaps that time we spend on social media drooling over beautiful food and travel destinations could be better spent focusing on what really brings us peace. The Perfect Potion team share their favourite go-to methods to relax and unwind…


Paola,
visual merchandiser at Perfect Potion, diffuses Relax Essential Oil Blend to create her own personal sanctuary amidst the chaos of daily life. She tells us, “there is something about Relax Blend that transports me to a calmer place mentally, giving me a beautiful feeling of calm and clarity.“

Gabriela from Perfect Potion’s Pacific Fair store finds peace in practising mindfulness and relaxing breathing techniques. Her advice is to “relax by connecting with your body, disconnecting from the outside, forgetting momentarily about any problems or issues that may be going on in your life. Breathe deeply, start visualising a relaxing sacred space… Feel your heartbeat slow with each inhalation”. Keep a Relax Aromatic Mist in your handbag and always be ready to make some quiet time for yourself.

 

Deneale, Perfect Potion’s Retail Administrator, tells us “I will either go for a run or do a workout and then, when I finally stop for the day (just before bed), I rub some Relax Aromatherapy Balm on my shoulders and neck. It really relaxes me after sitting in front of the computer all day at work and running around after three kids.”

Joy, manager of Perfect Potion’s Pacific Fair store, creates a relaxation ceremony. She says, “You will need: a Relax Aromatic Mist, a journal, Relax Herbal Tea, and a Relax Aromatherapy Balm. Gently surround yourself with the aromatherapy mist. If you have an intention this is a great time to repeat it (something simple like I intend to relax and unwind). Take a few minutes to sit in stillness (outside is best) focusing on breathing, acknowledging any thoughts that come up and letting them go. When you feel ready, gently open your eyes, this can be a great time to do some journaling – no need to overanalyse – just anything that comes to mind – a great time to work on solutions to challenging issues/decisions. When you’re relaxed and grounded the world will look different. Sip Relax Herbal Tea while writing – this blend of chamomile, hops flowers and lavender works to calm and soothe your body while you pour out your thoughts onto paper. When finished you may like to repeat (or develop) an affirmation/goal statement. Close the ritual with an expression of gratitude and thanks. Follow with another mist and application of Relax Balm. Massage the balm onto your temples, back of your neck and a small amount onto the soles of your feet. This is a fantastic way to start the day calm and balanced, or to wind down and close the day before bed.”

Why I can’t live without my weekly replenish face mask!

Sunday night 7pm is like the triple white chocolate, raspberry and Nutella éclair of my week – sheer luxury and ultimate decadence!  I like to think of my week as a big beautiful buffet, and 7pm Sunday night as my dedicated dessert section – my time to totally replenish myself!

The clock strikes seven and the outside world slips away. I massage a large tablespoon of Hair and Scalp Elixir through my hair, wrap it up in a warm towel, let my incense burn, smooth on a creamy, indulgent Replenish Face Mask and put my feet up while I tuck into a good book & block of Fairtrade, organic Pico Chocolate (yum!).

I recently decided to schedule face masks in as part of my new commitment to really taking care of myself. And I’m so glad I did! Lathering on a 15 minute mask is simple and infuses mind, body & soul with a bliss I thought was only possible from a week-long Bali goddess spa retreat.

When using a mask, your complexion is blanketed in a world of healing actives, extracts & phytonutrients for up to 20 minutes! This means your skin has a chance to soak in all the moisture. Furthermore, the natural luscious botanicals and pure essential oils are better able to penetrate the skin and convey their potent healing properties right into the deepest layers of the dermis to provide maximum therapeutic effect.

How to use…

In the same way you would ice a cupcake, smooth your mask over skin that is freshly cleansed and exfoliated (this will ensure you receive maximum benefits from your mask!). Be sure to avoid the eye and lip area. Leave on for 15 to 20 minutes while you put your feet up, meditate, read or whatever you like! When it’s time to remove your mask, simply hold a warm, wet wash cloth over your face for several seconds, repeat a few times to loosen the mask from your skin. Very gently wash the rest of the mask away with your wash cloth & plenty of water. Pat your skin dry with a towel, spritz over Replenish Fine Tuning Solution and follow with a layer of Replenish Serum

Giving to yourself helps you feel more vibrant, fulfilled and energetic – it helps you be the best version of yourself.
