Why I can’t live without my weekly replenish face mask!

Sunday night 7pm is like the triple white chocolate, raspberry and Nutella éclair of my week – sheer luxury and ultimate decadence!  I like to think of my week as a big beautiful buffet, and 7pm Sunday night as my dedicated dessert section – my time to totally replenish myself!

The clock strikes seven and the outside world slips away. I massage a large tablespoon of Hair and Scalp Elixir through my hair, wrap it up in a warm towel, let my incense burn, smooth on a creamy, indulgent Replenish Face Mask and put my feet up while I tuck into a good book & block of Fairtrade, organic Pico Chocolate (yum!).

I recently decided to schedule face masks in as part of my new commitment to really taking care of myself. And I’m so glad I did! Lathering on a 15 minute mask is simple and infuses mind, body & soul with a bliss I thought was only possible from a week-long Bali goddess spa retreat.

After experiencing first-hand the amazingness of face masks, I did some research to find out how it is they leave your skin feeling so toned and restored…

The skin-loving benefits of masks…

Our skin endures a lot, and sometimes it takes more than a standard cleansing routine to counteract it all. This is where masks come in. By drawing out impurities hidden beneath the top layer of your dermis, they take your cleansing routine to a whole new level. And after clearing out the bad, they deliver a wealth of nourishing goodness.

When using a mask, your complexion is blanketed in a world of healing actives, extracts & phytonutrients for up to 20 minutes! This means your skin has a chance to soak in all the moisture. Furthermore, the natural luscious botanicals and pure essential oils are better able to penetrate the skin and convey their potent healing properties right into the deepest layers of the dermis to provide maximum therapeutic effect.

The result of all this is improved hydration and a noticeably luminous glow and soft radiance that comes from true, natural nourishment.

The icing on this big ol’ nourishment cake is that masks don’t just love your skin. True masks are infused with pure, aromatic essential oils. So while your skin drinks in all the love and nutrition, your spirits are also replenished and uplifted by the beautiully healing qualities of aromatherapy.

Of course there’s a bit more to it then just whipping on any old mask. The mask you use depends on your skin’s particular needs.

The right mask for you…

In winter, the weather can be unkind to your skin. So right now, Sal & the team are loving Replenish Face Mask. Rich & totally20160621_104514 decadent, this smooth creamy mask contains jojoba, rosehip & avocado oils, olive leaf extract, calendula, as well as rose otto and lavender essential oils to nourish dry, dehydrated and chapped weather-beaten skin, making it perfect for wintertime!

Would your skin benefit from a weekly replenish mask?

Take the quiz below to find out…

  • When I wake up in the morning my skin feels dry, tight or itchy
  • My skin feels sore or tight especially after showering, bathing or swimming
  • My skin looks or feels rough
  • I am noticing more fine lines and wrinkles than normal

If you answered yes to two or more of the questions above, than a Replenish Face Mask would be perfect for you! The mask itself is wonderful for most skin types, especially in winter. However, oily or acne prone skin would be benefit more from either a Green Tea Purifying or Fresh Faced Mask.

How to use…

In the same way you would ice a cupcake, smooth your mask over skin that is freshly cleansed and exfoliated (this will ensure you receive maximum benefits from your mask!). Be sure to avoid the eye and lip area. Leave on for 15 to 20 minutes while you put your feet up, meditate, read or whatever you like! When it’s time to remove your mask, simply hold a warm, wet wash cloth over your face for several seconds, repeat a few times to loosen the mask from your skin. Very gently wash the rest of the mask away with your wash cloth & plenty of water. Pat your skin dry with a towel, spritz over Replenish Fine Tuning Solution and follow with a layer of Replenish Serum

…and that’s all there is to it!

This simple beauty ritual will replenish your skin’s moisture levels, returning it to a soft supple texture and gifting it with a beautifully dewy glow! We invite you to start your own weekly mask & lavish beauty ritual in which you take time to nurture your body, mind & soul in a truly holistic way! xx

Chakra Healing 101

Dive deep into the world of chakras and draw from a deep well of ancient knowledge that can help you create bliss & balance in body, mind, soul & spirit…

According to ancient yogic philosophy, we are all a beautiful amalgamation of vibrational energy. It is said that you, me and everyone else each possess 7 bright, concentrated spirals or ‘wheels’ of energy known as chakras.

Any kind of physical, mental and emotional stress can create imbalance. It is said that when we experience pain or trauma we can hold it tight within our chakras, like a kind of energetic scar tissue. But by working with them we can really release blockages and unleash our potential to live richly, fully & vibrantly!

Craving a sense of holistic wellbeing, harmony and total integration? Then read and receive a dose of ancient inspiration!

Your Seven Major Chakras…

Muladhara (Base Chakra)

The Base Chakra, or Muladhara, is the first of our seven major chakras.  It’s located at the very base of our spine and is strongly connected to the physical body, earth and our most primitive survival instincts. It is the driving force that urges us to eat, sleep and seek shelter.

When balanced, Muladhara brings a sense of vitality, groundedness and connection.  You will generally be more sensible with your  money and feel more in touch with nature. If Muladhara is imbalanced to you might notice yourself feeling unsupported, overwhelmed by irrational fears, aggressive, out of touch or insecure.

Balancing your Base Chakra…

To nourish and bring balance to Muladhara, try diffusing, inhaling, massaging and anointing with essential oils that are grounding, strengthening and centring.

Balance Chakra EO 5ml

If your head is often in the clouds, Balance Blend is filled with grounding oils of patchouli, cedarwood and black pepper to help you balance your Base Chakra, return to your centre and connect with your physical body and surroundings.

Other ways to nourish your Base Chakra include surrounding yourself with the colour red, trusting in the process of life, spending time in nature and eating grounding foods like root vegetables. The mantra for this chakra is Lam and affirmations such as “I am safe and grounded” or “I deserve the best that life has to offer. My needs are always met” are supportive and helpful when focussing on this energy centre.

Svadhisthana (Sacral Chakra)

Our Sacral Chakra is given the Sanskrit name Svadhistana meaning ‘sweetness’, and it is about all things that make life sweet – pleasure, sexuality, creativity, movement, change and emotion. It’s located just below your navel and is concerned with joy, creation, desire and the element water. It’s the chakra that moves us from basic survival to a life that is full, juicy and joyous!

If your sacral centre is balanced you are accepting of your place in life, enthusiastic and have the ability to embrace change and go with the flow!

If it’s imbalanced you might notice feelings of emotional volatility, frigidity, fear or guilt – especially surrounding sexuality.

Balancing your Sacral Chakra…

Allure Chakra EO 5ml

To harmonise Svadhistana try enlivening essential oils like sandalwood, mandarin, cardamom, ylang ylang, patchouli and jasmine absolute (all of which are in our sensual & soothing Allure Blend – designed for enhancing Sacral Chakra health).

Other ways you can balance Svadhistana are by indulging in a warm aromatic bath, enjoy a massage, wear or surround yourself with the colour orange. Keep gemstones such as citrine and carnelian and dancingis are really healing. The mantra for Svadhistana is Vam and wonderfully helpful affirmations are “I am happy, fulfilled and worthy of love” or “I embrace the ebb and flow of life”.

Manipura (Solar Plexus)

Our third chakra, or Solar Plexus, is located directly between the navel and the sternum and is given the Sanskrit name Manipura which means ‘lustrous gem’. It is our centre of personal power, self-esteem and ego. This is where those ‘gut feelings’ you may be familiar with arise. The Solar Plexus is a powerhouse chakra. It governs mental awareness and learning as well as the digestion and metabolism of food and life experiences.

When this chakra is balanced it can be described as a sunny centre emitting confidence and humour. If your Solar Plexus Chakra is healthy you make decisions easily & feel alert, optimistic and good humoured! If  your energy at Manipura is excessive or deficient you may experience feelings of powerlessness, oversensitivity, indecisiveness or a need to control and manipulate situations.

Balancing your Solar Plexus…

Harmony Chakra EO 5ml

Embrace your power & balance your third chakra with bright, confidence building essential oils of lemon, bergamot, juniper berry & frankincense (the stars in our Harmony Blend which is specially crafted for harmonising the Solar Plexus).

You can also wear or visualise the colour yellow. Step our of your comfort zone and try hula hooping, belly dancing & yoga – they can be really fun ways of working with Manipura. Brain teasers can also work wonders as can diaphragmatic breathing.  The mantra for Manipura is Ram and affirmations like “I accept & value myself as I am” and I am comfortable in my own power” are also really beautiful ways to work with the energies of Manipura!

Anahata (Heart Chakra)

Our fourth chakra, Anahata, is located at the heart centre and is associated with the colour green and element air. It is our centre of forgiveness, divine love, compassion, grace, and selflessness. Anahata is the gateway between our lower and upper chakras.

When Anahata is balanced we feel compassionate, nurturing and unconditionally loving. If Anahata energy is deficient or excessive we may tend towards co-dependent behaviour, neediness, coldness or feelings of worthlessness.

Balancing your Heart Chakra…

Compassion Chakra EO 5ml

To balance and harmonise your Heart Chakra try diffusing and anointing with Compassion Blend – a synergy of high vibrational oils like  rose absolute, ylang ylang, lavender, may chang, neroli & bergamot, specially designed to help open your heart and encourage unconditional love, compassion and forgiveness.

If you want to heal this energy centre, work on loving and accepting yourself  unconditionally. Allow that love and compassion to radiate out to everyone you meet! Spend some time in nature and with animals and loved ones. Practice loving kindness meditation and wear or meditate on colours of green and pink. Carrying gemstones such as aventurine, rose quartz or emerald is also really balancing for Anahata. The mantra for the Heart Chakra is Yam and some beautiful affirmations include “I love and accept myself for who I am” and “I am grateful for all the love that is in my life”.

Vishuddha (Throat Chakra)

Our fifth chakra, Vishuddha, is located at the base of the throat. It is our centre of communication, self-expression and creativity. Vishuddha is connected to truth, creative intelligence and the spoken word. It governs the way in which we communicate our needs and requirements, how we speak our truth and how we speak of others as well as the quality of our words. It’s about being true to yourself.

Balance here displays as trust, clear self-expression, artistic inspiration and an ability to live in the present moment with ease. Imbalances can show up as excessive talking or extreme shyness and difficulties expressing yourself clearly. It all depends on whether the energy is abundant or deficient.

Balance your Throat Chakra…

Expressive Chakra EO 5ml

Balance Vishuddha and speak your truth clearly with our Expressive Blend – a specially selected synergy of German Chamomile, sandalwood, basil and sweet orange essential oils!

To further balance Vishuddha try singing, engaging in meaningful conversations, speaking your truth, consuming blue foods and wearing or visualising the colour blue. The mantra for Vishuddha is Ham and some lovely Throat Chakra affirmations include… “I always speak my truth” or “It is safe for me to express myself (Tip: repeating these out loud is especially helpful).

Ajna (Third Eye Chakra)

Our Third Eye Centre is located between the eyebrows and is associated with the colour indigo and element of mind. It has the Sanskrit name Ajna, meaning ‘to know’. Ajna is the chakra of insight, wisdom, intuition and visualisation.

When Ajna is balanced we open ourselves fully to intuition, imagination and clear-sightedness. When imbalanced we can experience confusion, a scattered mind or egoism.

Balance your Third Eye Centre…

Insight Chakra EO 5ml

Strengthen your Third Eye Chakra and open your mind to clear, intuitive thought with pure essential oils of clary sage, myrtle, lavender, rosemary and bergamot in Insight Blend.

Daydream, stargaze and meditate, trust your intuition. Other ways to harmonise Ajna include wearing the colour indigo (or meditating on it) and using amethyst crystals. The Third Eye mantra is Aum and affirmations like “The answers to all my questions lie within me” and “I trust my inner self to guide and protect me” are wonderfully clarifying.

Sahasrara (Crown Chakra)

Our seventh chakra is located just above the crown of the head and is linked with the colour violet and the element of thought. Sahasrara, meaning ‘thousand petal lotus’, is the Sanskrit name given to this centre. It is considered one of the highest vibrational centres in the subtle body. Our Crown Chakra is about wisdom, oneness and awareness. It relates to inspiration, kindness, vision, self-knowledge and self-realisation.

When Sahasrara is in harmony you will have a reverence for all of life, and be open to divine energy and wisdom and have a deeper understanding of your life path or purpose. If you have blockages or imbalances at this centre it can manifest as a loss of faith, rigidity or psychical neglect and spaciness.

Balance your Crown Chakra…

Cosmic Chakra EO 5ml

Strengthen your Crown Chakra and enhance your spiritual connection with the combination of lavender, frankincense, sandalwood and lime in our Cosmic Blend. Try adding 5-7 drops of Cosmic Blend to your diffuser or add 5 drops to every 10ml of pure vegetable oil to use as a massage oil.

To increase the health of your Crown Chakra look for the divine in everyone and everything, enjoy quiet contemplation – meditate, pray and practice gratitude, write down your dreams, journal and visualise the colour violet. The mantra for Sahasrara is Om and a great affirmation for this centre is “I tune into union with my higher power”.

Jojoba is rich in a multitude of vitamins including vitamin D, which is a key nutrient for skin cell growth and replacement; therefore, it helps the skin maintain health and vibrancy!

Protect and strengthen your skin with the high levels of proteins, lecithin and linoleic acid found in Avocado Oil. This oil is wonderfully replenishing and is often recommended for people with eczema, psoriasis or undernourished skin.

Boost collagen and keep the skin soft, supple and firm with vitamin A-rich Carrot Oil.

Soothing, anti-inflammatory Calendula is known for its beautiful skin-reparative properties.

Pure essential oils of lavender, patchouli, frankincense and everlasting promote elasticity and soothe your spirits.

Essential Oils to Reduce Stress

stress down for lifeline

It is hard to talk about stress in terms of one broad emotion or state of mind. Stress comes in many shapes and sizes and is caused by any number of things. That said, never fear – there are ways to manage stress, no matter what is causing it.

Aromatherapy is a tried and tested holistic means of treating some of the manifestations of stress. In this article, we will specifically address which essential oils may help to calm an overactive mind, in dealing with depression or anxiety, with letting go of issues and to strengthen your confidence.

How to choose essential oils

Our brain distinguishes aromas as positive or negative (sometimes, if you have not smelled a scent before, you may not have an existing memory so you will probably feel neutral). When choosing essential oils for yourself, choose one that you absolutely love, something that you can get excited about and will put a smile on your face. If you don’t like the smell of an essential oil or you are not sure about it, choose another one. You always want to feel a positive effect from an essential oil or blend. When making your own blend, feel free to choose your favourite oils from each category to achieve a multifaceted positive effect.

Relaxing and calming an overactive mind

If your mind is racing and you are finding it hard to calm your thoughts, your best option would be grounding, comforting, calming essential oils. These oils will take you out of your head and plant you back on the ground. Try a blend of two or three of your favourite scents from the below list and sit in a quiet corner away from distractions. Take a few deep breaths and allow yourself to release any stressful thoughts.

Try any of the below oils:

Depression or anxiety

It isn’t always easy to bring ourselves out of a state of depression or anxiety and it does often take a lot of work to change the situations that may be creating this problem. Aromatherapy can help to uplift you emotionally, energising you and giving you a sense of harmony. Blend a couple of your favourites from the list below while doing something you love and makes you happy.

Moving on and letting go

Often times something is said, or something happens that we find difficult to move on from. This could be anything from the death of a close friend or family member, the loss of a job, a mean comment by someone and we just can’t stop thinking, worrying – we get stuck. Juniper berry is known to purify and drive away negative influences and thoughts. Blend a few drops of juniper berry with an essential oil associated with any other emotions you might be feeling.

Try Juniper berry with Frankincense or Sandalwood to help with accepting a situation and moving on.

Confidence and heartache

Heartbreak feels endless – the loss of a friend or family member, a break-up, empty nest all pull at our heart and can leave us feeling insecure and unmotivated.

Strengthen your heart chakra and build your confidence again with the high vibrational energy of rose, jasmine and ylang ylang essential oils. These beautiful florals will help to balance your heart chakra and are uplifting and euphoric to comfort you when your heartaches.

Bergamot is great for confidence and performance. When you need to speak up or go for an interview, inhale deeply straight from the bergamot bottle.

Creating a blend

If you are thinking the above descriptions are all applicable on some days, select your favourite oil from each category and make your own unique blend in your diffuser. Just remember, stronger smells require less drops to prevent overpowering the blend. For example, you may only need 1 drop of patchouli to 10 drops of sweet orange so the 2 oils blend together in harmony. In fact, try thinking of blending essential oils like a musical harmony, no one voice should be too much louder than any other – they should sing together as one new voice.

One last aromatherapy tip – when choosing many different essential oils for your new blend, try including bergamot. Bergamot is known as the great blender, it beautifully brings together the other oils, making them mingle harmoniously into one new aroma.

Enjoy blending and creating a more calming, stress down day!
