At Perfect Potion, we’ve already integrated aromatherapy into our everyday life. It permeates our home and work. But we would love to involve everyone else. Those who consider themselves avid aromatherapists are experienced in adding aromatherapy into the everyday. But aromatherapy isn’t an elite club where only those who study it can join. Aromatherapy is for everyone! Everyone can enhance their wellness and realise the benefits of using essential oils in their everyday life. So how can you integrate aromatherapy into your everyday?
We’d like to talk about laundry. Not many people would think to add essential oils to their laundry ritual (or chore), but adding essential oils can deliver practical and therapeutic benefits. It is best to add these wonderful essential oils to a non-scented or low scented laundry powder or liquid.
Does your best friend sleep on your bed? Snuggle time is all well and good but to combat that ‘doggy’ or ‘feline’ smell that lingers you can add essential oils when washing your sheets. When adding your laundry powder or liquid, simply add 2-3 drops of essential oil on top to keep your sheets smelling fresh and to take advantage of the many anti-bacterial properties of many essential oils.
As this month’s essential oil is Geranium, we feel that we should probably tell you how to use it. In-depth details into its properties, therapeutic benefits and psychological benefits can be read in Sal’s Geranium Monograph. But how can you incorporate it into your everyday if you’re just starting out discovering the world of aromatherapy? Or maybe you’re an expert and looking for more ways to introduce it into your household?
Geranium is a sweet scented floral essential oil. When washing your delicates, add 1-2 drops of essential oil on top of your usual laundry liquid or powder for all-day sweet smelling undergarments.
Smelly Socks/Work Out Gear
Working out and keeping busy is great for our bodies, but not so great for the smell of our socks. Often parents of active children or people who exercise regularly wash their socks separately because of the strong odour. The same goes for workout gear, sports clothes and even boxing wraps. To take advantage of the anti-bacterial properties of essential oils and to give your sweaty garments a good clean, try adding 4-5 drops on top of your usual laundry liquid or powder.
1. Sprinkle the Epsom salts into the base of four holes of a standard size muffin tin.
2. Gently melt the cocoa butter and sweet almond oil in a small saucepan on the stove.
3. Once the cocoa butter has completely melted remove the saucepan from the heat and add the essential oils.
4. Pour the liquid mixture evenly over the Epsom salts.
5. Sprinkle the Relax herbal tea over the top of the mixture in the muffin tin.
6. Place in the fridge to set.
7. Run a warm bath and drop a disc or two into the bath water (cocoa butter requires warmth to melt).
8. Relax as you allow the essential oils and Epsom salts do their work.
9. As you emerge from the bath the cocoa butter and sweet almond oil will leave your skin feeling soft and smooth.
Remaining bath discs are best stored in the fridge in warm weather.
In a glass jug or bowl mix the drops of Essential Oil Solubilser together with the drops of essential oil.
Slowly stir in the water.
Pour into a spray bottle and shake well. You are ready to create a peaceful home.
