Help us to turn a world-wide taboo into an empowerment movement!

Sharon Wood started her Emgoddess journey while at Perfect Potion as a team member of one of our Brisbane stores. She is passionate about sharing her Emgoddess work with women across Australia, and the world, and she needs our help.

Emgoddess is about changing the conversation and empowering women by turning a world-wide taboo into an empowerment movement. Her goal is to create online tools to connect with women of all ages to understand their cycles, which can have a deep impact on their bodies, their self-esteem and their lives on every level.

Evidence shows that an increase in self-awareness improves self-esteem and girls are less likely to put themselves in threatening or promiscuous situations.

Sharon has just launched a crowdfunding page and is asking for your support! This is a unique opportunity for you to contribute to this amazing cause and help start a movement. And the good thing is, if you get involved, you get back too!

To support Emgoddess, we are offering everyone who contributes to the crowdfunding page the opportunity to attend an exclusive parent and child 2 hour workshop.

You could be a mum and daughter, dad and daughter, carers or siblings! Every crowdfunding donation will receive 2 tickets to attend, in addition to the great perks on offer, including a 10% discount on the day for all Perfect Potion products! Simply contribute to the crowdfunding page to be registered into the workshop. $20 minimum donation required for registration.

Chakra Enlightening: An interview with Veda yoga teacher, Margaret Doyle

Ever wanted to learn more about the chakras from a practicing yogi?

Perfect Potion and the Australian School of Meditation and Yoga have joined together to bring you an enlightening interview discussing the chakras with Veda yoga teacher, Margaret Doyle.

For someone who has never heard of the chakras before, can you explain what they are and how they function?

There are many levels that we function on. Modern science has discovered almost all that there is to know about how the food gets digested and absorbed how the oxygen is transported to every cell in the body, how wastes get taken away etc etc. But the yogis of old knew of a vast subtle energy system that is separate from but works in with all the other systems of the body.

The energy travelling in this system is known as prana and it is said to travel throughout the body in subtle channels or nadis. Chakras are places where there are cluster of these nadis.

The yogic texts inform us that the living entity residing within the body is covered by different layers of matter – earth, water, fire, ether, mind, intelligence and false ego and each of main chakras is an embodiment of one of these layers of matter. These chakras are located proximal to the spine from the base of the torso up to the crown of the head. While most of the chakras are active to some degree, our consciousness or what our interests are influences which particular chakras are the more active.

For example when the first 3 chakras are more active our concerns are more limited to a bodily level whereas as the energy rises to the more subtle chakras of ether, mind, intelligence and false ego our consciousness tends to gravitate more to the more subtle levels of compassion, love and spirituality.

What was your first exposure to the world of the chakras? How did you come across learning about them?

While there is a lot of literature in the yoga world on chakras my actual understanding of them comes from the ancient vedic yoga teachings as taught to me by my spiritual teachers His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami and Jagad Guru Siddhaswarupananda Paramahamsa.

Was there a time in your life when you knew one chakra in particular was significantly out of balance?

Traditionally knowledge of the chakras and different regimes to influence them were solely for the purpose of raising our consciousness to a level of spirituality where we attain the goal of yoga – loving union with the Supreme. It is then and only then that we can have a perfect balance of the chakras where each one is functioning optimally.

As one develops one’s spiritual consciousness the lower chakras settle down and we are able to be more in control of our life and how we react.

Do you think people are starting to understand the importance of both physical and mental wellness, and therefore acknowledging the chakras as important to overall health?

The traditions of yoga have largely been culled down to just a bodily level. So that asanas which were originally practiced to get the body and mind into a state where we can meditate with ease for long periods of time are now used for our health alone. Similarly chakras which were acknowledged in a very rigorous system of mystic yoga now receive a great deal of attention in influencing one’s psychological make up. Some yoga scholars declare that any influence like this is largely psychosomatic.

What are your favourite ways to balance your chakras? Do you have favourite yoga poses for example?

As before mentioned the yoga practices of old to influence the chakras were very rigorous and practically impossible to practice in this day and age. Therefore now the best way to balance the chakras is through mantra chanting as taught by our teachers and experienced at ASMY.

The Art of Blending: A recipe

A Recipe By Rita Balshaw, Inspired by Sal’s Blending Masterclass

If you where one of the many keen aromatherapy enthusiasts that attended Sal’s recent Sydney “Art of Blending” Masterclass, then I am sure you will agree in saying, we truly had a wonderful day. The Masterclass explored all things essential oils, traditional perfumery and therapeutic blending techniques.

It was so amazing to learn about the healing properties of plant botanicals, and then have the attendees go forth to create a powerful synergy of essential oils that would then become a scent that is energetically signature to them.

The intimacy of the blending workshop could not be denied, there was a certain vibe in the air that was probably a result of people embracing their creativity and relishing in the inspiration of the day.

Here follows my perfume recipe that I would like to share. It captures the sweetness and warmth that I feel about my life. The combination of sweet and spicy essential oils evokes feelings of complete contentment allowing me to blissfully surrender to the sweet flow of existence. Feel free to adjust this perfume blend as you please, using our essential oils.

Making your own natural perfume is intimate and personal. It can be quite the journey from inspiration to creation.

10mL roll on perfume bottle

10mL jojoba oil

3 drops lemon essential oil

3 drops sandalwood essential oil

2 drops jasmine essential oil

1 drop cardamon essential oil

Add the jojoba oil to the perfume bottle, followed by all the essential oils. Ensure the lid is firmly secure. Roll across the upper chest, wrists and back of the neck as often as desired. This perfume will keep for up to three years. This perfume recipe follows Sal’s teaching method on how to create a jojoba oil based roll on pulse point perfume.

It is important not to exceed 10 drops of essential oils per 10mL of jojoba oil.

Aromatherapy and Mindfulness

My First Mindfulness Experience

I would like to share with you a story which, to me, perfectly explains mindfulness.

Since coming to Japan I have become friends with a monk from one of the temples in Kyoto. Matsuyama-san always makes some time to speak with me. I love talking to him about life matters. One day I was feeling really upset and angry and I without realizing it, I was projecting my anger at him.

I said to him, “It’s ok for you to be calm all the time. You can mediate all day long, you have a beautiful temple to meditate in, but many people like myself are too busy, we have to go to work, we have families and we have all types of stresses that you don’t experience.” He always pauses after I speak. He took his time before speaking. There was a long, uncomfortable silence which I found disconcerting and frustrating.

On this one particular day, during a period of silence in our conversation, I became totally in tune with the nature around me. I could see the veins in the leaves of the trees, every single grain of sand on the ground; it was an incredible feeling. Then I noticed a small bird flutter by and land on a branch just above us. In that instant this tiny, little bird did a pee.

I was so excited and exclaimed “Matsuyama-san, did you see that! That little bird just did a pee, I have never seen a bird do a pee before.” He quietly turned to me and said, “Sal-san, see what happens when your mind slows down to the same speed of nature, you become aware of everything around you.”

From there he went on to explain that you do not have to spend many hours meditating every day to practice mindfulness. You can practice mindfulness every day in your job, in your relationship, with your food and the things that you do.

In recent years mindfulness has become quite popular as people become more aware of the benefits for mental and physical health.

Mindfulness can be described as deliberately paying full attention to what is happening around you and within you; in your body, heart and mind. Mindfulness is awareness without criticism or judgment.

From,

Sal
