Perfect Potion Stance on Animal Testing
Perfect Potion is a proud member of Cruelty Free Australia. Our products are also Certified Natural with BDIH (an international certification organisation from Germany that has strict standards for the manufacture of natural cosmetics). It is a requirement of Certified Natural BDIH that ingredients used to manufacture our products, as well as the finished products, are not tested on animals.
Last year I spoke at a cosmetic conference in Hong Kong about Perfect Potion's strategy for entering the Asian market. Perfect Potion has become very popular because of our values and the integrity of our product. Part of our strategy for growth into Asia involved entering the Chinese market. However, at the conference I was shocked to learn that cosmetics registered for sale in China must be tested on animals. We had not been informed by our previous distributor that our products would need to be tested on animals. We have, therefore, decided to suspend all our plans to sell our skincare products in China until the Chinese government changes its laws and position on cosmetic animal testing.
We know that many people including Chinese want to see an end to cosmetic animal testing. We are confident that many companies and policy makers will follow the direction of the EU who has just recently banned animal testing of cosmetics.
We hope that this will send a strong message to all countries to ban testing of cosmetics on animals.
The testing of animals in China is only for cosmetics and does not apply to essential oils and aromatherapy related products. Hence, we are able to continue to supply these products that do not have to be registered or tested on animals to our distributor in China.
In the meantime, we are developing a website so that any of our Chinese customers who have proudly been supporting Perfect Potion can continue to purchase their Perfect Potion products from us online.
