Paola Milani
Paola studied both Fine Arts and Media Arts at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and enjoys using mixed media to create her art. Since then she has worked as the head artist for a tile studio, specialising in hand painted mural designs as well as exhibiting her art in a number of galleries. When she moved to Brisbane Paola worked closely with Sal and Carolyn as the visual merchandiser and creative for Perfect Potion. Paola is now focusing on her art and illustration. She is also currently collaborating with Dogstar for their Laika clothing range, creating prints that offer the wearer inspiration.
Who or what inspires your work?
People that are out there trying to change the world for the better. People that are making a conscious effort to do their bit for the planet. Positively . Nature. Clouds. Water. The light before a storm hits. Traditional crafts from indigenous cultures. The water crystal photographs of Dr Masaru Emoto. My beautiful daughter, Isabella and husband, Marcello.
What is the synergy between your work and Perfect Potion?
I used to work closely with both Sal and Carolyn as a visual merchandiser and creative for Perfect Potion. The projects we worked on would always flow and we all seemed to have an understanding of what the other was thinking in terms of design ideas etc. I still find this to be the case with the freelance projects I do for Perfect Potion. When Sal gave me the new perfume balms to smell we both thought of the exact same colours that should represent each particular perfume. I think having similar view points always helps. We both share a similar philosophy and also commitment to sustainability. I am actually looking forward to one day doing a large collaboration with Perfect Potion and Tomoko!
What is the best thing about being an artist?
One of the best things is being able to create a story or visual message. Whether it be an illustration for a client or an art series I am working on, there is always a story behind it. I enjoy creating pieces that will give people inspiration or joy. It's pretty satisfying when people that have bought my art contact me and tell me how good it makes them feel when they look at it and I love hearing their interpretation on what the art work means to them. Giving others inspiration to create is a wonderful thing.
What is your advice to budding artists?
Be yourself, follow your heart and enjoy what you do.
What is/are your favourite perfect potion product/s?
Ha! Too many to mention!! But I have to say my all time favourite is Bare Faced Exfoliant. It is so gentle and leaves your face feeling so smooth and soft! The entire Green Tea and Jasmine Range leaves you smelling and feeling divine. Soothe Cream is a god send, as is Running Wild Foot Soak! The Chakra Essential Oil kit is a must have and the new Perfume Balms are exquisite!! Oh and one more...Wild Lime and Vetiver Aftershave Lotion. I actually use it as a perfume!
